Philippians 3:12-14 (The Message Bible)

I'm not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don't get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I've got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I'm off and running, and I'm not turning back.

Day 70

Another great day. For once, we stayed home (almost) all day. The kids did have gymnastics for an hour this morning, but other than that, we chilled at home and it was so nice. I think the kids even enjoyed just being in our home, playing with our toys, being with each other. I actually even took an hour long nap this afternoon upstairs in the play room while the kids played quietly. It was dreamy!! Tonight after dinner, my mom came over to join us for a swim. Or should I say bath? The water in the pool has reached 92 degrees now!! It feels like you're stepping into a bathtub! Seriously, a few more degrees warmer and I think we can start calling it a hot tub! ha ha After that, I came in and got on my elliptical machine. I did a few minutes on my own and then decided to try out one of the "training sessions" that is built into the machine. It was a 25 minute, 300 calorie interval training where the level of resistance changed about every 5 minutes. It was nice, because I knew exactly how much longer I had left and how many calories I was going to burn. HOWEVER--I decided to wear my heart rate monitor (HRM) too--so I could see how the two compared. Well..obviously according to my elliptical machine, I burned exactly 300 calories. But my HRM said I only burned 162!!! UGH! That is so frustrating! I don't know which one to trust. I honestly do think that my HRM consistently has a lower reading than what I expect. It seems like when I work out really hard, pushing myself to the max for an entire hour or more, I should be able to burn a significant amount of calories (500+) but the most I have ever clocked on my HRM is 321. I would LOVE to go get a different HRM (maybe a Polar) and just try it to compare. Anyway, after that, Brooklyn suggested her and I do a work out together!! So, I couldn't turn that down! I put in Cardio X and we worked our little booties off. She actually didn't do very much of it...but that's okay. I'm just excited that she's excited about exercise! That's my girl. She looked so cute in her shorts and sports bra and tennis shoes. Like a little replica of me! ha ha
Speaking of....I am thinking about doing some research and then an educated post about the effects that exercise programs such as P90X have on children. I'm curious what the children of all these fitness-addicts think. Do they despise the time their parents spend on it? Do they join in? Do they tend to be more athletic and fit than other kids? I'll let you know what I find out!
So...for food today:
Breakfast: Oatmeal with apple, raisins and walnuts mixed in.
Snack: EAS protien shake (110 cal)
Lunch: Chicken salad (from nutrition guide phase 1) with Kashi crackers, 2 LF graham crackers, 60 cal. SF chocolate pudding cup
Snack: 45 cal. Raspberry light yogurt cup with 10 slivered almonds on top
Dinner: Chicken tortilla soup with diced avacado, cilantro and FF mozerella on top with 10 homemade corn tortilla crisps.
Dessert: Homemade apple "crisp" and 1 scoop SF vanilla ice cream. I calculated this dessert to be about 250 cal. per serving including the ice cream.

I would imagine that the HRM is more accurate than you think. I can never go by the calorie burn on a treadmill or elliptical, because it is usually calculating the calories burned for a 150 lb person. With us being smaller (and female), we burn less calories. So the more weight you lose, the less calories you are going to burn, even while doing the exact same workouts. So don't get discouraged...be encouraged! Your losing fat and building lean muscle! (and the more muscle you build, the more calories your body will burn, even at rest! Yippy!!! Bring on the weight training!!! That's my favorite...well, that and running) :)

That is so cute that Brooklyn wanted to workout with you! Way to go Brooklyn!!!!
The boys like to workout with us any chance they get, and they LOVE it. We are teaching them the importance of exercise and good nutrition. By them seeing us take the time to exercise, and eat healthy foods, they see that it is something important that you do for your entire life, if you want to be strong and healthy.

I totally AGREE with Kc, as far as the HRM. I feel they are waaay more accurate than the Machines. Just remember along the way as you drop those pounds, update your HRM with your lower weight so that it continues to calculate it correctly.

It is verrrry Frustrating to see the lower numbers and I have been fighting them for quite some time now. I just don't burn the calories I use to when I first started the program. And I am using the same HRM as before. Take for instance CardioX, the very first time I did that DVD for 45 min, I burned 375 caloties. It has been decreasing little by little ever since, this morning I only burned 250 with the same exact Dvd and HRM as well as intensity. It has been the same decline with each of the Dvd's. Like I said It was and is frustrating , but I just embrace the fact that I am nearing my goal weight and my heart is running MUCH more effecient than ever. I have brought on the bike rides in the eve and weekend to compensate for the lack of calories burned in a P90X session. It just takes a lot more activity to burn as many Calories as you want to burn.

I also notice on my HRM, while
I am active and burning, it seems just as hard as ever, but I don't often go up in the high 150 and 160's as before, I seem to maintain anywhere from 120-150. Which is still a good burning zone for me. You just got to put more activities in your day if you want to burn more...

Don't get too discouraged in the HRM numbers, if your doing the workouts and watching your eats, the shedding of the pounds will continue to go down...

I would like to know what you find out on the kid subject!
